WTC site memorial

the design is defined by the footprints of the World Trade Center towers, dividing the memorial site into three major spaces with the following themes: PAST - PRESENT - FUTURE
the elevated footprints function as the spaces for the PAST and the FUTURE. the lower area inbetween represents the PRESENT. this concept is easy to relate to and thus a guide for visitors through the different spaces and atmospheres of the memorial site. the PAST is to remember, honor and pay respect to all the innocent people murdered in the attacks. the PRESENT is to respect the past, to reaffirm life and celebrate the values that endure and to look forward to the future. the FUTURE is formed by the spirit of the past and present, the preservation of freedom and the achievement of peace.
